impoverished and unemployed folks are living in the Cork suburbs, and this
year the economy of Ireland is lousy. Add in a high rate of alcoholism,
and a number of mentally ill, elderly, and physically abused, the nuns have
their hands full. This woman shows her enterprising spirit making music
and dance on the sidewalk with her daughter. At right, Irish gypsies,
known as "Tinkers" have little chance and little interest in employment.
While Carmen meets with a family, I wander through this encampment talking
with the the children about leprechauns.
