ESTONIA
The lovely town of Tallinn, Estonia gave us comfort. It seemed almost Western, after two weeks in Russian St Petersburg. Although many Russians had settled in Tallinn, the USSR let go of their occupation. It was a bright holiday for us, staying in a small hotel near the Plaza. Picturesque and fascinating in its quaint beauty, this once was a medieval burg, surrounded by a high wall, armed. But we loved walking the streets, visiting shops, an endless variety of people everywhere. English was spoken fairly well. Businessmen as well as tourists hung out in the bars, Phyllis shopped intently, and I found many scenes to paint or photograph. |
